Innovations that are transforming the way we intensively farm poultry

Brought about by the ever-increasing demands of making money from farming poultry combined with extra regulatory pressures and a growing consumer concern around intensive livestock systems we are today seeing innovations come into our sector at a rapid and growing rate. This presentation will review what’s arrived and arriving.

David Speller, B. Sc.
Founder and CEO OPTIfarm

From achieving a degree from Harper Adams in 1995, David Speller started his farming career managing vegetable production in East Anglia before going it alone in April 2000 and becoming a self-employed consultant.

In 2004, with no poultry experience, David bought an old poultry farm housing 160,000 birds and from this foundation David has built a business that today is farming multiple broiler sites around the UK on behalf of its clients.

In addition to farming David and his team are actively involved advising and supporting many consultancy clients including investors and lenders.

In 2018 David set up the world’s first remote optimisation service for poultry businesses. Today OPTIfarm is active 24 hours a day, in 17 countries around the world in multiple languages and is moving from poultry into pigs by 2022 and potentially dairy or aqua after that.

David has always adopted new thinking to existing challenges and is recognised as one of the world’s leading authorities on precision livestock farming, appearing on many global platforms to share his knowledge.
