Presentation of the Swine and Poultry Infectious Diseases Research Center (CRIPA)

The Swine and Poultry Infectious Diseases Research Centre or CRIPA, is a strategic cluster of the province of Quebec, funded by the « Fonds de recherche du Québec – Nature et technologies ». Funds n°2020-RS4-265142.

The CRIPA fosters the interaction among 71 teams headed by scientists devoted to basic or applied research at six universities, two cegeps, six government, private or not-for-profit entities and two institutions outside of Quebec.

The CRIPA aims to improve the control of pathogens that affect the pig and poultry industries, having an economic impact and on the health of populations (animal, farmers, industry stakeholders, and the general public).

It also stimulates communication between these researchers and potential users of their findings, primarily veterinarians and pork and/or poultry producers in Québec, by addressing two main issues:

  1. Antimicrobial resistance and pathogen evolution;
  2. Sustainable development and social acceptability.

Located at the Université de Montreal, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (in St. Hyacinthe), this Centre is under the direction of Professor Mariela Segura, Director of the Research Group on Infectious Diseases in Production Animals (GREMIP).
