Drinking water in poultry production: from acidification to the addition of bioactive components – Overview and outlook to meet the current production challenges

In addition to sanitation strategies, water management represents a key aspect of poultry production, having a potential impact on the health, productivity and general welfare of the birds. A holistic view will help better understand the impact of different water additive categories and their physiological effects on birds.

Angel René Alfonso Avila, Ph. D.
Research Scientist Centre de recherche en sciences animales de Deschambault (CRSAD)

Dr. Alfonso-Avila is a researcher at the Centre de recherche en sciences animales de Deschambault (CRSAD). He specializes in the functional role of nutrients—minerals, amino acids, vitamins, and phytogenic products—as complementary strategies to optimize health and reproductive performance of modern animals, both ruminants and monogastrics.

In the poultry sector, he is focusing his research on the viability of lengthening the production cycle in hens, reducing the proteins in chicken diet, as well as understanding the effects of water acidification strategies for chicken, especially the impacts on the calcium/phosphorus metabolism and the acido-basic balance.
