Richard Bailey is based in Edinburgh, Scotland and has been working within the Aviagen Research and Development team since 2010 in the role of Poultry Health Scientist. In this role he is involved in a range of poultry health research initiatives investigating poultry anatomy, physiology, immunology and microbiology.
His main area of interest is poultry gut health and physiology, and understanding the relationship between host genetics, gut immunity, gut development and the resident microbiota. In addition to research, Richard also provides internal and external technical advice and training for improving and understanding intestinal health.
He obtained his undergraduate degree from the Royal Veterinary College in London and his MSc in Animal Breeding and Genetics from the University of Edinburgh. He completed a PhD at the Institute of Food Research in Norwich which focused on intestinal health, dysbacteriosis and the microbial ecology of the poultry gut.
